I painted the slab pig..
Well the legs and the underside ...
The top got an antifungal treatment then some teak oil...
It's looking pretty neat now..
This morning at the flea market - carboot sale...
I bought this little hatchet stamped Gem..
It never looked like this..
In a bucket with rusty spanners..
But with some elbow grease...;b

Side Tracked Again

Yeah yeah, side tracked again...

With the all the good weather over Easter...
I was inspired to make this..
But it rained all this weekend while making this slab bench, can't be sunny all the time.... ;)
Note the string line and level for marking the leg height and angle..., Also called a slab pig from way back in the day in old logging camps or bunk houses....;b

Back On The Ripples

It's taken a few weeks..
But I got started back on the rippled sycamore cabinet..
More rebating by hand of course..
And I got the floorboard bookcase in place..

Elbow Grease

Machined rustic is the look I'm after with this shelving unit, it's for heavy files and books.. I know I should finish the sycamore cabinet first, but hey ho!!
I'm using  4 1/2"x 3/4" machined flooring..
 I had to cut 36 rebates in total with the tenon saw then chopped them out with a sharp chisel..
And  with my uncles old rebate plane I tidied up each rebate before gluing each panel..
A panel consists of three floorboards I'm pretty happy with the housings for the shelves they all line up which will be handy.. I took the drawknife to the front edges of the sides and shelves..
The long joints of the sides got this treatment too, this will give it a little worn out aged look..
All by hand, no noisy machinery just elbow grease...;b

Making Good Use Of The Car Booty

I've been busy with the Sycamore cabinet that I mentioned a few posts back..
A while ago I bought this, old new in the box Paramo rebate plane at the car boot sale..
So the Sycamore cabinet will have some tongue and groove lining as a back.. And I needed to make a rebate to house the lining..
After a  few trials I got the hang of the plane and in a short time I had my sides and the top rebated  down to my depth...
The fence wiggles a bit and needed tightened a few times, but it definitely got the job done....;b
