After a good walk this morning see previous post, I got a little notion to carve a spoon so I headed to the shed with a bit of Rowan ( mountain ash ) and started hacking away and a while later a spoon started to emerge. Rowan is pretty hard to carve but with time and care it works out. A bit of Silver Birch nearly ended up in the firewood pile but I saved it at the last minute and thought that a kuska cup would be a good reprieve for this bit of birch so with my twy cam I started to shape out the bowl of this little cup then I cut around the bowl and shaped the outside with an axe then a drawknife and finally my little frosts 106 carving knife. The kuska cup will still take a while to finish here it is so far :)

A Fireweed Walk
I didn't really feel up to scratch all week, so I was glad of a beautiful frosty morning instead of all the rain of late. So I strolled out among the tree's to soak up the autumn sun, good for the spirit a visit into the woods I would say, all the fall colours now really glowing. I stopped to look up through a Silver Birch up to a sky that you could dive into . And the fireweed really lives up to its name at this time off the year, take a walk with me and see :)

Inspired
When Im out walking or cycling, I always scan all around in the shapes and shadows that we can pass by every day in nature. These shapes are the inspiration for a lot of what I put together :)

Country Roads
The weather this weekend was absolutely gorgeous , frost in the morning then sunny all day . I jumped on my bike and headed off , I cycled the country roads until I found a nice tree lined trail and followed it through the woods.
With all the trees now wearing their autumn cloaks and the bleached bone colour of the standing deadwood it was a great day to be out and about . Hiding among them I found this special tree, I wonder if any of you guy's know what it is ? check the last 3 pictures and place a comment with your answer :)

Planes
I spent some time cleaning and sharpening my hand planes this morning, then I shaped up a few stool tops using them.
With one of the ash tops I turned out a nice little three legged stool with scrub birch legs, there's lots of character in this old olive ash :)

Not So Wild
On friday after work I headed off for a cycle, watching the leaves which are just starting to change into their autumn colours waving around in a strong breeze. I headed out of town and out into the surrounding farmland, there are very few, wild animals to see in our part of the world . But there are some other not so wild creatures, that make us stop and take a look . Ducklings, silkie hen chicks, goats , fat sheep, tamworth pigs, a little pony along with a couple of donkeys, and a puffed up golden pheasant, what colours he has in his bright show off cloak .Here they all are :)

A Little Carried Away
I got the chair finished off this morning sanded and waxed and ready for a wet day with a good book. I got a little carried away with this particular chair with oak leaves and the mouse resting in a little hole, in the back of this chair . But I think it all comes together , what do you guy's think :)
