A House For Doves Swallows And A Sign For The Sawmill

While out cycling this week I passed this Dovecot complete with doves. This Dovecot would have produced meat for its owner a long time ago, now the grounds are parkland not private land. So now the doves are safe apart from the odd raptor, here they enjoy the warm summer evenings just like us.
The sawmill swallows are now lining up on the phone wires, if not catching insects and strengthening their wings with practice flights ready for the long journey home . This year they don't seem to be trying as hard for more than one brood , Last year some managed 3 broods.
And from the top here's a sign that I made a for the sawmill recently, using an old mothballed saw blade and a nice piece of oak that has been weathered to silver,I routered this out on a machine that I haven't used since I was a sixteen year old apprentice. I still remembered how to do this nearly 23 years later, so I was pleased with how it turned out, the letters were painted a light blue colour called wedge wood blue . Enjoy the summer we are :)

Nice sign; neat old building. I miss the swallows we had at the farm, though they crapped on eveything.

Love the sign! The blue works well with the silver of the oak

hi brian, in the winter months we have migrating swallows. they fly in vast clouds spinning through the air and light in a particular type of tree. you really have to hear them close up. to appreciate the sound of thousands of birds at once.it always amazes me that they never collide in midair, rather they seem to turn as a group almost as if they have the idea all simultaneously. wish i could get some video, maybe this year.
does dovecoat refer to the building or the farm itself. ken
